In the current economic climate, it is understandable that companies in the animal nutrition sector can be risk-averse or reticent to place long-term bets. But at the same time, it is important to create a working environment where risk-taking is tolerated to help create innovative solutions and fostering a culture of curiosity is highly encouraged.

When we consider the future of food and feeding the population, we also must consider the fact that we will have to produce more food in the next 30 years than we produced in the history of mankind.

When we read about the future of food, we see the positives and we see the challenges, the opportunities and some downright scary aspects, such as not having enough calories – not having enough food. And when we look at our feedstuffs and look at how much we lose in terms of nutrients and calories when we’re feeding our animals, it’s an enormous opportunity.

At the 35th edition of the renowned Alltech One conference in 2019 Mark Lyons started a journey towards a future for his company and – more importantly – a journey which points towards an exciting future for the whole agricultural sector. “Do we want to live on a planet of peril or plenty?” This was the rhetorical question he asked then.

He continued: “We choose to believe in the latter. With upcoming new technologies, improved farm management practices and the ingenuity of mankind, a world of abundance could be ours. There is so much to discover, millions of ideas to chase and apply and, last but not least, stories to tell which show that plants, animals and people can thrive.”
