Submitted by jnorrie on Fri, 06/25/2021 - 12:02

Although mycotoxins are an unavoidable problem and can have a detrimental effect on gut health and the microbiome, some key management practices can help reduce the risk of such occurrences. Alltech believes that effective mycotoxin management is about seeing the whole challenge, from the farm to the feed mill and from risk assessment to feed management.

How a 130 acre Waterford farm gained a 10% increase in milk yields

Submitted by rjones on Mon, 06/14/2021 - 10:40

Compared to his old machine, Ger noticed that the mix quality improved when using the Approved-used MechFiber machine. The benefits of this included:

  • Improved straw incorporation in all mixes;
  • Minimised sorting by cows due to complete and consistent mixing, meaning every cow gets their allocation of straw, aiding digestion and benefitting health;

International Dairy Topics: What have we learned about forage quality and mycotoxins?

Submitted by jnorrie on Wed, 05/05/2021 - 17:02

Forages have long been the standard feedstuff for ruminant livestock production. The use of higher forage content total mixed ration (TMR) has increased in recent years, creating the need for greater monitoring of the quality of high-inclusion feedstuff(s). Major forage crops include corn silage, grass silages, haylages and small grain silages. These, individually and in combination, will represent most of the TMR, and their quality is a determining factor in efficient production and animal health.

Submitted by jnorrie on Sun, 04/11/2021 - 13:15

The ‘Seed, Feed, Weed’ concept is a comprehensive programme developed in order to improve the gut health of birds, whether breeder, broiler or layer. Improved performance has been measured across all types of birds, however if good gut health can be established in the breeding population this will provide the biggest benefit to chick and hence bird performance.
