Alltech was founded in 1980 by Dr. Pearse Lyons with $10,000 and a dream. Today, Alltech remains a privately held company with a strong sense of commitment to the communities in which it operates.
Alltech ACE Foundation
Alltech believes in giving back. For this reason, we established Alltech’s ACE Involvement Foundation, a charitable foundation to help fund the philanthropic efforts of our company, employees and partners around the world.
Sustainable Haiti Project
Following a devastating earthquake in 2010, Alltech launched the Sustainable Haiti Project in the town of Ouanaminthe with the goal of helping build a sustainable future in one small part of Haiti. Our efforts have focused on education by improving and upgrading schools, strengthening local Haitian enterprises by launching a Haitian coffee and a Haitian rhum, and leading various economic developments throughout the country.
Beyond the earthquake: Haiti's long-term challenges
There are many ongoing problems in Haiti that have been compounded by natural disasters. The poorest country in the Western hemisphere, centuries of poverty have resulted in poorly built and maintained structures and sprawling slums with makeshift housing. Additionally, unsustainable timber harvesting and agricultural clearing has continued for more than two centuries, resulting in devastating soil erosion. This has increased the frequency of flooding and reduced agricultural potential. Sustainable economic growth is the key to making a long-term difference in Haiti, which is why we are investing in its future at the grassroots level.
Sustainable growth begins in the community
There can be no sustainability without education, which is why the Alltech Sustainable Haiti Project includes complete financial responsibility as well as renovations and education support for two grade schools in northern Haiti. Our project has also resurrected a Haitian gem: the country’s 100 percent shade-grown Arabica coffee, which Alltech markets and sells as Alltech® Café Citadelle. Together, we are helping build a more sustainable future in one small part of Haiti by creating employment opportunities for the Haitian people and sparking a lifelong love of learning in its children.

Healthy soil, defined as soil that has a high organic matter content, good biodiversity and high nutrient availability, provides an excellent basis for optimized crop health and production.
The yeast cell has many valuable uses when it comes to crop production. Yeast extracts — the interior components of the cell — are rich in a wide variety of amino acids, which can complex with trace minerals for improved nutrient bioavailability.
Even before germination, a seed contains all of the genes that determine a plant’s full genetic potential. However, just because a seed has the capacity to perform does not mean it will. Stresses, nutrient limitations and hormone imbalances can permanently reduce gene expression throughout the growing cycle, limiting crop and yield productivity.
Through the incorporation of new technologies, efficiency in crop production has soared. However, so has demand for more sustainable management practices. Today, regulations are tightening, and there is more scrutiny than ever before from consumers regarding conventional herbicides, fungicides and insecticides.
