Farmer’s Weekly editor Denene Erasmus has been awarded the inaugural Alltech International Award for Leadership in Agricultural Journalism from the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ).

The award, presented in conjunction with animal nutrition and crop science company Alltech, recognises the journalistic achievements and leadership that agricultural journalists demonstrate within the IFAJ guilds of their respective countries.

More technological innovation is needed in agriculture to help combat climate change and ensure sustainability of world food production, according to experts at the Alltech Ideas Conference.

“There has to be a way to digitize farms,” said science writer Ramez Naam, co-chair of energy and environment systems at Singularity University. “[We need] better seeds, smarter practices, more precise farming with inputs, better animal nutrition, better monitoring of yields. All of these would allow us to grow more food with the same land and less water.”

ONE: The Alltech Ideas Conference (ONE19) brought together the brightest international minds in science, agriculture, technology and business this week in Lexington, Kentucky. Among them were young leaders in agriscience participating in the Alltech Young Scientist (AYS) competition and more than 100 agricultural journalists as part of the International Press program.   

PORK: Mitigating ASF in Feed Critical to U.S. Biosecurity

A new feed intervention is poised to help improve biosecurity and may even prevent transmission of viruses including Seneca Valley virus (SVA) and African swine fever (ASF) that may survive in feed. 

Pipestone Veterinary Services shared their research and their new strategic partnership with Alltech at the 2019 Alltech One Ideas Conference.

National Hog Farmer: Finding a feed mitigant that stands up to ASF

Through two isolation studies, three bioassay studies and one nursery performance trial, APC has shown efficacy in preventing the transmission of the PED virus as well as the PRRS virus and Senecavirus A in feed. This week during ONE: The Alltech Ideas Conference, De Jong along with Gordon Spronk, veterinarian and chair on the Pipestone Veterinary Services board of directors, announced that Alltech is acquiring a new mitigant technology called APC from Cornerstone (a joint venture between Pipestone and Ani-Tek to explore the technology).
